From Enviroschools and sustainability programmes. Below are community action projects that are currently in motion to reduce our emissions:
Half of what we send to landfill is compostable material. To reduce food and garden waste in Auckland, we have worked with Kaipātiki Project and EcoMatters to deliver Compost Collective, providing discounts on composting equipment. Compost Collective also offers useful resources and workshops on everything related to composting.
EcoMatters EcoHub and western sustainability initiatives
EcoMatters is a purpose driven charitable trust that partners with Auckland Council in a number of different ways to benefit people and the environment. Our western local boards have partnered with EcoMatters to support a wide range of conservation and sustainability activities in west Auckland, including the EcoHub in New Lynn, sustainable living workshops, community bike hubs, weed bins, Eco Fest and much more!
128,900 tamariki/students take part in the Enviroschools programme. Read more about the 281 Enviroschools across Auckland that are helping children connect with and explore the environment. Enviroschools is delivered in Auckland through a partnership between Toimata Foundation and Auckland Council.
Our carbon footprint tool enables Aucklanders to discover their carbon footprint and take action to reduce it. Once signed-up, FutureFit shows you the tangible impacts from each decision like taking the bus, shortening your shower, choosing plant based meals more often or hanging clothes out to dry (rather than using a drier). FutureFit also tracks your progress over time, allows you to create teams and shows the combined impact of our collective action.
Awa ā tatou is an urban stream monitoring project to empower communities and provide them with tools and the knowledge to keep our fresh water clean.
